Tai Po Hidden Carers Support and Home Based Respite Project

Carers undertake significant responsibilities in their daily lives, often neglecting their own needs despite their dedicated efforts. In light of the cumulative pressures they face, there is an urgent need for a respite space that allows carers to temporarily set aside their burdens and regain their vitality, while ensuring they care for themselves as they care for others.

With the generous support of the Vera Ruttonjee Desai Charitable Fund, the Jockey Club Tai Wo Centre launched the "Tai Po Hidden Carers Support and Home Based Respite Project" in July 2025, for a duration of three years. The primary objective is to identify elderly carers in the Tai Po community who are experiencing stress or require assistance, thereby establishing a robust support network for them. By training alternative carers and volunteers, the project provides quality home-based respite services focused on companionship throughout the caregiving journey.

  • Carers of mental handicapped family members, particularly elderly individuals lacking support within the community.
  • Carers aged 60 or above who have been assessed as having elevated levels of stress will be prioritized.
