IWD2026|"Recognition of Prior Learning" for Elderly Care Service Industry Commendation Ceremony

"Recognition of Prior Learning" for Elderly Care Service Industry Commendation Ceremony, organised by the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology, was held on 6 March.

As a partner of the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology, we have been actively promoting career planning for carers. So far, 21 carers have participated in the assessment, applying for a total of 153 competency units.

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mechanism provides an important platform for carers’ years of valuable experience to be recognised and acknowledged, allowing their skills and contributions to receive formal recognition and validation.

The scheme has also expanded the scope of applications for RPL in the elderly care sector, from previously focusing only on residential care services to now also covering community care and support services, enabling practitioners from both residential and community care settings to apply.

In addition, family carers and volunteers without formal work experience in elderly services can now apply for eight recognised qualifications through the relevant assessment mechanism based on their caregiving experience. This not only affirms the experience and capabilities of carers, but also supports them in pursuing careers in the elderly care sector or continuing their engagement in volunteer services in the future.

Let’s continue to support carers and ensure that their contributions are truly seen by society!
