Promoting "Gender Equality" ─ the Practical Application of Diverse Gender Concepts in Social Contexts

Addressing the needs of diverse and marginalised communities, organisations proactively respond to unnoticed and overlooked service gaps, and explore various issues to promote public education. This session showcases the flexible and innovative characteristics of emerging and self-financed social service organisations, utilising artistic expressions and speaker presentations to facilitate discussions on advancing "gender equality" issues. Through this, participants gain understanding of the needs of overlooked and subtly discriminated groups, as well as the social circumstances they encounter in their everyday lives. This exchange activity helps various sectors deepen their understanding of the content of this issue, and become aware of how to take an extra mile in promoting a society that embraces diversity, equality, and inclusivity across various aspects of life, such as social environments, cultural norms, values, and policies. By practicing respect for gender diversity, Hong Kong can evolve into a more equitable, harmonious, and inclusive society that embraces diverse development.

Our Director Ms. Sisi Liu presented how agencies can provide Carer-friendly Support, e.g. creating Carer-friendly Workplace, offering Flexible Working Arrangements, and providing Gender Education Promotion. At the same time, Ms. Sisi Liu introduced Carer Friendly Employment Charter  to provide support for working carers and practicing a "carer-friendly policy" to balance carer and employee duties.

The artwork "Mother and Child in Office"

The wood sculpture is created by artist Chung Wai Yan, a working mother and artist. The artwork highlights the burden of working parents, appealing for care and concern among colleagues, and promoting a gender and caregiver-friendly work environment. It provides a unique perspective to observe and improve workplace culture, making it more inclusive and supportive of employees who shoulder family caregiving responsibilities. Additionally, it offers an innovative way to enhance interaction and connection among colleagues in the workplace, strengthening team cohesion and job satisfaction.
