To celebrate the International Women's Day, the HKFWC organized an action entitled "Women Flying High" on March 8, with the hope that all women can have the time and space for self-development and enjoy a better future.
This year, more than 100 women attended the event, some even with their children. Staged at Tamar Park of the Central Government Offices, the event featured performance by the Hearts Talk Drama Group and singing by Hong Kong Homemakers' Alliance, which expressed the difficulties of women and the voices of carers. Four legislative councillors attended the event, including Hon Claudia Mo, Hon Lee Cheuk-yan, Dr Hon Helena Wong Pik-wan and Hon Leung Kwok-hung, who acknowledged the contributions by carers and gave their support to the participants.
In response to the theme of the event this year, the participants wrote their wishes on paper planes and flew them at the Central Government Offices. Later, we marched to outside the Central Government Offices to voice their demands and concerns. We urged the government to address the difficulties of carers, to implement family-friendly policies, as well as to improve community child-care services and carer support measures, so that women can have the space for self-development.
