Parallel Session - Economic Empowerment with Gender Perspective
This parallel session is moderated by Ms. Ng Tze Wei, Member of Service Development Subcommittee of Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centres. A lawyer by profession, Ms. Ng is concerned with inclusion, equality and poverty issues.
At this parallel session, we are delighted to have two guest speakers, Dr. Pauline Chan, former lecturer of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Ms. Dora Cheng, Member of Service Development Subcommittee of Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centres, sharing their valuable views on the topic. Dr. Chan has years of devoted experience in women and social development, and gender and social work, with a particular interest in the diversity economic practice. Ms. CHENG, an experienced social worker, is a committed advocator of community economy and keenly explores the possibility of the ecological community.
At the session, the two speakers shared their international experiences on women’s social and economic empowerment as well as the development of the community economy. On how women may start exercising economic empowerment, a viable way would be for women to achieve it through their own personal interests and women’s advantage. Meanwhile, the community economy requires a social network of mutual aid closely connecting women, organizers and participants, thereby enhancing women’s social capital.
The continued support for women from various organizers in the community is vital. We look forward to cooperating with partners in the same cause from all walks of life. Let’s join hands to unleash the potential and create extra possibilities!
